The
Government of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea has
appointed the National Chairman of Peoples Progressive
Party, Dr. Damian Ogbonna as the Chairman of African
Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean
People. The
appointment was conveyed to Dr. Ogbonna at a ceremony held
at the Korean Embassy in Abuja on Friday, 8th of April 2016.
The letter of appointment was presented to Dr. Ogbonna by
H.E., Jong Yong Chol, the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea
on behalf of the government of his country. The
letter signed by the Ambassador reads in part: "
I, upon authorization of the government of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea, would like to inform that Mr.
Damian Uzoma Ogbonna, the National Chairman of Peoples
Progressive Party of Nigeria was appointed as the Chairman
of African Committee for friendship and solidarity with the
Korean People".
He
further stated that this was in recognition of the great
contributions made by the PPP Chairman towards the
development of friendly relations between the Workers' Party
of Korea and the Peoples Progressive Party of Nigeria; and
expressed his conviction that, as Chairman of the
continental committee, Dr. Ogbonna would further contribute
to the development and nurturing of friendship and
solidarity between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
and African countries. In
his response, Dr. Ogbonna thanked the Korean government for
the honor bestowed upon him and Peoples Progressive Party by
the appointment. He pledged to work tirelessly to develop
and nurture friendly relations, economic cooperation and
solidarity between DPRK and African nations. The PPP
Chairman observed that African nations have a lot to learn
from the DPRK, particularly in our quest to enshrine
politically independent nations across the continent;
nations that will no longer pander to the whims of
neo-colonialists and their modern day agents foisted upon us
in the guise of national leaders; nations whose only reason
of being is to uplift the pulverized masses of the continent
and make Africa a true giant to be reckoned with in global
affairs; nations capable of developing and sustaining
economic independence and military self-reliance.
Dr. Ogbonna
expressed his hope and belief that such an alliance can be
realized in this generation. The
event was attended by embassy diplomats, members of Peoples
Progressive Party and well-wishers.
