The
Peoples Progressive Party of Nigeria shares the deep
concerns of the world community regarding the unstable
circumstances on the Korean peninsula.
We
want to state that PPP supports the principled position of
the DPRK to immediately stop forthwith the US - South Korea
joint military exercises in the peninsular in order to
create an environment conducive for peace talks to resolve
the hostilities and dangers in Korea once and for all times.
The
kind of Joint military exercises being conducted by the US
and South Korea aimed at overthrowing the political system
of DPRK is not defensive but offensive in nature, and
therefore dangerous. Even a slight error or misunderstanding
on the part of one party can easily spark a major armed
confrontation.
Such
offensive Joint military exercises on the Korean peninsula
are a major threat, which could spark a nuclear war in a
region that is now the most explosive powder magazine in the
world. This can trigger a new world war.
We
call upon the United States to immediately and vigorously
pursue dialogue with the DPRK, in the same manner it did
with Iran, in order to secure the peace in the peninsula.
Such a sincerely peace effort must necessarily be preceded
by the suspension of the joint military exercises.
Therefore,
PPP supports the proposal of the DPRK calling on the US to
suspend its joint military exercises in South Korea and its
vicinity in exchange for a moratorium on further nuclear
tests by the DPRK. This will be a good foundation to build
the trust needed by both sides to make progress in the peace
of the peninsula.
The
Peoples Progressives Party of Nigeria demands strongly that
all parties involved in the division of the Korean people
come to the negotiation table to settle all the outstanding
problems peacefully. War is not the solution.
